Are y’all ready for a friendly photographer PSA? YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WAKE UP EARLY FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION.
See? Was that so bad? Let me explain!
Frequently, couples come to me with incredible ideas for their engagement shoot locations. Places that mean a lot to them. Places that are iconic to the DC Metro area. Places that are just drop dead gorgeous. And I’m always all about it, but then we inevitably get to the point in the conversation when I tell you it would be amazing to start the session at sunrise and that’s when this usually happens:
“………How about 10am?”
Since you’re all lovely and busy adults who value your sleep, I can’t actually tell you what to do with your lives, but definitely consider the below reasons why you should wake up early with me on the morning of your shoot:
1. THE SUN, MY GOODNESS THE SUN. You know that soft glow? That romantic flattering light that happens right after sunrise? It’s impossible to create that look any other time of day.
2. LESS PEOPLE! In just about any location, the earlier you rise will dramatically lessen the amount of tourists or passersby in the background of your photos!
3. NO GLARE IN YOUR EYES! Sunrise sessions aren’t only to take advantage of soft light. It’s also to avoid the dreaded squinting that is inevitable when the sun is directly overhead.
4. You’ll get incredible photos like Anna and Tim did when I advised them that Great Falls on a Saturday in October would be impossible later in the morning, and especially during a pandemic when everyone and their mom wanted to be outside on a gorgeous fall day.
I mean… LOOK AT THESE TWO! And for you at home reading this, please wake up early with me. You’ll be glad you did!
